Mrs. Osaka and Naru

Mrs. Osaka runs her own jewelry store. She is usually a kind and caring mother, a far cry from the pushy saleswoman Morga poses as when copying her.

Naru is Usagi’s best friend and does a little bit better than Usagi in school.

Mr. Osaka is never named or mentioned in the anime or manga, except for a brief panel in the final Chibiusa’s Diary entry.

In the manga, Naru has a little sister named Naruru. But in the first anime, Naru is an only child.

Usagi’s reactions to her new life are priceless!

Morga is disintegrated alive!

First episode of Sailormoon. Introduction of Naru, Luna, Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon, Mamoru/Tuxedo Mask, Ikuko, Shingo, Queen Beryl, Jadeite, Haruna, Umino and Mrs. Osaka. First glimpse of Sailor V. First time Sailor Moon uses Moon Prism Power, her screech ability and Moon Tiara Action.

Usagi doesn’t adapt well to the idea of a talking cat.

Final Blow from:

This was the episode that started it all, and one of the very few to stick to the manga for the most part.

The DiC version of this episode starts WAY differently. They actually spliced in shots of Kunzite, and shots from episode 44, showing the fall of the Silver Millennium, while an old man tells a story that 1000 years ago, Queen Beryl destroyed the Moon Kingdom. Oh and basically by this logic, that means that all your world history books are wrong, and that Earth only had Endymion's kingdom and like nothing else. (I know, Prince Darien. Because DiC liked to be obvious.) This was followed by a clip where Queen Serenity somehow has Ikuko's DiC dub voice, and ships off the bodies of Princess Serenity (Serena) and the Sailor Senshi (Scouts) to Earth of the 20th Century. This totally spoiled the whole, fucking series, and made all of the characters look as stupid as possible, but someone at Toei must have really loved it, because they went ahead and spoiled the whole "who is the Moon Princess" thing in Crystal the first episode too, only minus that whole, nasty death thing. Oddly enough, the DiC voice for Ikuko and episode one's Queen Serenity was also their choice for Sailor Neptune, and she even stuck around for both characters for Cloverway, while Queen Serenity later got a more fitting voice. Anyway, from this point onward is the original, Japanese episode, which doesn't blatantly give it away.

We start the episode off with a mini introduction by a sleeping Usagi, when suddenly, the alarm goes off, and Usagi bolts downstairs. Why does this kid fail to set her clock at least an hour early, knowing she has to traipse across town to go to school? I have no freaking clue, but this will be the running gag for the next season and a half, and will return in Sailor Moon Crystal. So anyway, Usagi-chan is late. We see Ikuko for a few frames, not even caring enough about her own daughter to have tried getting her up earlier, as she reminds Usagi to take her lunch in a blasé fashion. Toothbrush out of mouth, the now frantic Usagi races to school. Along the way, she finds some horrible children attacking a little black cat, so she chases them off, and removes the bandage on the cat's head. The crescent moon bald spotted cat flips out, and decides to stare at her, really creepily. Usagi hears a bell, and races off.

Well saving that cat really cost Usagi, and now she is super late. So she is sent to the hall for early detention. By the way, unlike American schools where if one kid screws up, the teacher forces everyone to put their heads on their desks for a few minutes, Usagi has short detentions in the hall. Next season, she will do this with a bucket of water on her head, just to further add insult and to strain the muscles.

Well as if detention isn't bad enough, Ms. Haruna steps into the hall, catching Usagi nibbling on her lunch. While throwing a temper tantrum at Usagi, Haruna informs her that she's flunked her test. Next scene, we see Usagi crying about how awful today has been so far. Naru tries to cheer her up, and she begins to tell her about Codename Sailor V. Just then, Umino invites his creepy self into the discussion, to talk about V catching thieves. Thinking of jewelry thieves reminds Naru that her mom is having a sale on jewelry today, so she invites Usagi to go shopping with her.

I want you to think about this a minute. 14 year old girls… from the suburbs… buying expensive jewelry … for the hell of it. Now don't you wish you could have the kind of job that would allow your teenagers to shop at Kay for no good reason?

So on arrival, we see "Naru's Mom" selling everything in the store to tons and tons of 14 year old girls, high schoolers (High School in Japan starts at 16.), college women and one giant, fat bitch who will be eating up a chunk of the episode. But after being pummeled, Usagi realizes she's already spent her allowance, and her grades suck too badly to ask for more money. And I'm sure those pesky child labor laws are probably erasing all hope of her getting a paying job this season.

So Usagi decides to head home. Along the way, she cries over her shitty test results and gets bullied by Mamoru. Then on arrival home, her mom throws a temper tantrum, and throws her out of the house over the bad test. Then Shingo, Usagi's less than cute baby brother, KICKS HER and makes fun of her. She goes to kick him back, and ends up hitting the door.

We see Queen Beryl in her lair, talking to Jadeite about their mission.

We then see that Naru's mom… is actually the Youma Morga. And all the new jewelry sucks up your energy, and makes you Morga's slave. Naru starts freaking out.

Back at home, Usagi tries to take a nap in her bedroom. Luna invites herself into the room, and wakes the girl up. She thanks her for removing the bandage, and oh yeah, did I forget to mention, THE DAMNED CAT IS TALKING??? Well Usagi is freaked out, and is trying to tell herself it's only a dream. To prove it's not a dream, Luna shits a locket. No, for real. Go back and watch the scene. Luna is a naked cat. She ain't got no pockets!! Well shitting a locket out makes everything A-OK so Usagi wears the locket. Luna tells her to say "MOON PRISM POWER MAKE UP!!" and when Usagi complies, she turns into Sailor Moon.

While Usagi is screaming and freaking out, her hair pieces start flashing, and she can hear Naru screaming for help. So no problem. We just jump out the window, parents and neighbors never see this, and we are off to save Naru. Totally normal, right?

So Sailor Moon and Luna arrive. Morga is choking Naru. Sailor Moon makes an introduction, and oh Lookie, we have tons and tons of people coming at us now with weapons. Oh crap, we're bleeding too, isn't that nice? So how to we save Usagi? That's right. Tuxedo Mask appears to throw a rose at the problem and say something encouraging. Does this help Usagi? Nah. Not really. She screams, and lets out sonic waves, shaking the building, busting the windows, causing the slaves to pass out and pissing off Morga. Oh hey, doesn't Naru live here? SORRY! So now Luna eggs Sailor Moon to use the tiara, which of course, kills Morga and causes jadeite to drop all the energy Morga obtained.

The next morning, Naru and the girls are all talking about Sailor Moon, while Usagi sleeps in class.
